Join our story-telling podcast, and bring hope and healing to others

Spirit of Woman is calling on anyone with a lived experience of domestic and/or family violence (DFV) to come forward and tell their story as part of ‘Stories of Courage’, a storytelling podcast.

This initiative hopes to unite the community, empower those who have long been silent and shine a spotlight on domestic violence to bring about lasting change.

Tiarne Cook is the lead facilitator of the ‘Stories of Courage’ podcast project alongside Helen & Heather Oxenham.

Tiarne was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia. She studied journalism at UniSA as had a real interest in people and their stories. Since graduating she has cultivated years of experience in radio and other forms of audio storytelling. In her years in the media, she has noticed a real lack of attention and time given to domestic violence in reporting. As headlines came and went, she saw that important truths and details were often brushed over. It was clear a different platform was needed, one that would give those telling their stories the power – full ownership of their story, and the time and space to tell it.

The idea for a podcast came after Tiarne met Helen for the first time while assisting with interviews linked to the ‘Place of Courage’ project. She was blown away by Helen’s spirit, unwavering strength, and powerful story.

Years later she reconnected with Helen and made a short radio documentary about her life, her experiences, and her lifelong campaign against DFV. You can listen to it here.

Following this, the idea of a wider-ranging podcast came about. After Helen had shared her story, it became apparent to Tiarne that other people may be compelled to do the same. What if we had enough people willing to make a whole series? What kind of ripples could this set into action?

‘Stories of Courage’ endeavours to listen, to support, and to offer a path to healing. It acts as a safe space to share, and for warriors to be heard. We want to bring domestic violence into the public consciousness, make it part of our daily conversations and expose it for what it is. We will no longer hide silently in the shadows.

Join others who have shared their stories and be part of this moving, inspiring and thought-provoking series.
