Long-term custodianship

Spirit of Woman is the founding custodian of The Place of Courage, working in partnership with the City of Adelaide and government stakeholders to ensure this place of remembrance is cared for with dignity, respect and purpose for generations to come. 

As a permanent public memorial, The Place of Courage is intended to stand as an enduring symbol of remembrance, reflection and hope, held in trust for the community and future generations. 

Why this matters

Opportunities to help establish a permanent civic memorial are rare.

The Place of Courage will become South Australia’s first permanent public memorial dedicated to

victims and survivors of domestic and family violence. It will provide a place where lives are

acknowledged, memories are honoured, and stories that were once carried in silence are held within

the public heart of our community.

This is more than a memorial.

It is a statement about who we are as a society and what we choose to remember.

It is a legacy that will outlive all of us.

And it is not the work of one organisation alone.

It is a Founding Legacy being created by individuals, organisations, communities, advocates,
